A MUCH-changed Lancaster City outfit still held too much power for North West Counties side Great Harwood Town in the Lancashire County Cup on Monday night, running out 2-0 winners.

Five players were rested after the FA Cup exit to Cambridge and manager Phil Wilson was also absent to run the rule over potential signings.

And during the first 45 minutes the Dolly Blues looked like they might be about to suffer an FA Cup hangover.

Mark Thornley was twice called into action to keep the scoresheet blank and City created only one chance - Tony Sullivan setting up Neil Uberschar for a header saved by home keeper Bobby Harris.

But it was a different story after the break as the Dolly Blues at last found some rhythm and Sullivan headed in a Michael Yates cross to make it 1-0 on 54 minutes.

Harwood were restricted to shooting from distance and it was no real surprise when Gary Bauress provided a perfect pass for Farrell Kilbane to head into the roof of the net for 2-0 on 67 minutes.

CITY: Thornley, Uberschar, Scott, Kilbane (Jones 85), Robertson, Sparrow, Bauress, Mercer, Yates, Sullivan, Elderton. Subs (not used) Welsby, Clarkson, Hughes.
