A FORMER Mayoress of Wigan, Doris Jones, of Higher Folds, Leigh, has died aged 74.
Doris, wife of Alderman and former Mayor Jimmy Jones, was born in Wigan Road, Leigh and educated at St Peter's and Leigh Central schools. She left school at 14 to work as ring spinner and later at Volex in Hindley Green before her retirement.
Doris, who was Mayoress in 1987/88, leaves husband Jimmy and sons Geoffrey and John.
The funeral takes place on Thursday 13, at Bedford Church at 10.45am.
