PRIMARY school children had the chance to share their views on how their neighbourhoods could be improved thanks to a new borough council project.

Children aged between seven and 11 from three primary schools made a video to air their views on the environment, school and healthy living.

The Engaging Younger Young People's Project followed workshops by The Action Factory to encourage children to look more closely at the world around them.

Pupils from Brookhouse Primary, Audley Junior and St Gabriel's schools in Blackburn viewed the video's premiere at the newly opened Pleckgate City Learning Centre where they also received certificates from the Mayor and Mayoress, Coun Michael Barrett and Mrs Moira Barrett and from the leader of the council, Sir Bill Taylor.

The scheme was led by Angela Aspinall, a school governor representative on Blackburn with Darwen's Council Strategic Partnership. The project was funded by the Community Network.

Coun Taylor, who is chair of Blackburn with Darwen Strategic Partnership's Executive, said: "The outcomes are clear and very encouraging - the children are very well informed about what makes for a better quality of life and we will be listening carefully and taking on board as many of their recommendations as we can."
