WHY is it that when you drive past a pole with a little yellow box on you get a) a flash of light, b) a £60 fine, c) 3 points on your licence?

OK you should have been observing the speed limit. There is of course another way of getting the said fine and points on licence, but this is totally ignored as it would mean that somebody other than a machine would have to actually do some work!

I refer to the complete disregard by motorists of the various road signs. Some examples: Going from Mincing Lane towards Darwen Street and the junction of Jubilee Street, as you approach Darwen Street there is a road sign indicating that you can only go straight ahead, no left turn nor right turn. Private cars, taxis and minicabs, if they feel they want to, turn right and no penalty. Even nearer to the new police station when you are proceeding from Blackburn along Jubilee Street at the junction with George Street there is another sign that states only buses and taxis may proceed down Jubilee Street. It is surprising how many buses and taxis are disguised as private cars.

This is not sour grapes at having been caught, just one very peeved motorist who tries to abide by the rules of the road.
