YOUNG people from Catholic churches have taken part in a youth event to help them learn more about problems facing others in society.

The event called "R U Mad Enough to Make a Difference" took place at St William's Chapel, near Longridge, one of the region's oldest churches.

The young people from churches in Longridge, Hurst Green, and Chipping, took part in group work, initiative tests and a reflection held in the upper room of a house that saw Catholics gathering in secret to celebrate Mass in bygone days.

The group will hold a 24-hour youth event next year, at which each person will be expected to live for the day on the equivalent of one dollar.

The event will be linked with national Catholic charity CAFOD and will help young people learn more about problems facing young people in Third World countries. Catholic churches wanting more details should contact Salford RC Youth Officer Bob Beardsworth on 01254 395650.
