BURY North MP David Chaytor will join dignitaries from business and the community at the opening of the extension of Pilsworth Power Plant today.

The power plant extension has added a further four megawatts of capacity to the existing site, giving a total of seven megawatts of renewable generating capacity, enough electricity to power nearly 10,000 homes.

The power plant, operated by Viridor Waste Management, consists of lean-burn gas engines fuelled by methane produced by decomposing waste in the adjacent landfill site, also operated by Viridor.
