BRENT Peters finally saw his Bacup Borough side shift into top gear with Wednesday's 5-0 thrashing of Holker Old Boys.

And the manager was drooling as a Darren Emmett hat-trick and two from Rhodri Giggs sent Bacup storming into the second round of the Lancashire FA Marsden Trophy.

Peters hopes the way his team performed will rub off on their league form, starting tomorrow with a trip to Alsager Town in North West Counties Division One.

"I felt proud and privileged to be their manager on Wednesday," said Peters. "

"Our passing and movement was excellent and our goals were top drawer. In previous games we have been running with the ball in the wrong areas but this wasn't the case.

"Darren Emmett scored three, Rhodri was unlucky not to have had a hat-trick as well, as was Stuart Telfer. It's not an exaggeration if I say it could easily have been double figures."

If Bacup continue to play the same brand of football, Peters is confident the fans will come flooding to West View.

He added: "When you think what it costs to go on a Nationwide ground, for three pounds at West View there was skill, flair and goals.

"They would have graced any Premiership stadium, but we must now maintain this level of performance."

Tommy Allen returned after suspension, while the manager also singled out Lee Anderson, Ian McLellan and Paul Davies for praise after previously being highly critical of his defence all season.
