I SEE from your report (LET, November 12) that the people of East Lancashire are being asked to back an extra payment of 26p a week on top of our council tax for us to keep our local 'bobby' on the streets.

Would it not be possible for the revenue created from the Lancashire tax collectors (sorry, the Lancashire Road Safety Association) to be passed on to our police force, then we can have even more police hiding in the back of vans (being paid overtime) pointing their speed guns at 'criminals' doing 35 to 40 mph.

I am sorry, if you want me to pay any extra council tax I want to know if it will be spent on real crime prevention not tax-collecting for this government via mobile speed cameras.

I must point out this is not a dig at our local 'bobby' but those who manage them. They already know they are one of the most unpopular forces in the country. I wonder why?
