BUTCHERS Bennett's have proved they're a cut above the rest!
The company, which has been in the town since 1919, struck gold, silver and bronze in the coveted North West Excellence for Meat Products event held at the Bolton's Reebok Stadium.
Bennett's, whose shop is in Princess Parade, scooped gold awards for its ploughman pork sausage and traditional home-cured ham and silver prizes for its garlic pork sausage with black pepper, gala course cut pork sausage and home-cured maple bacon. The business completed a "hat trick" by notching up a bronze award for its traditional pork sausage.
Mr Martin Bennett, director of the third generation family-run company, said: "It was really good to put in six products and then to gain six awards. We have to supply raw and cooked samples and the judges also cook off the products which are tested for visual appearance, how they cook and how they taste.
"When we win silver or bronze awards, then we amend our recipes so we can improve our products even further."
