A PUBLIC meeting to discuss controversial plans for a £50million wind farm on Scout Moor is being held in Edenfield tomorrow.

Residents who believe the 26 turbines proposed by Peel Holdings and United Utilities will be a blot on the landscape have been campaigning against it and last week went on a moorland protest march, which was led by environmental campaigner David Bellamy.

The turbines will be 300ft tall and according to the applicants will provide green power to 51,000 homes in Rossendale and Rochdale and will help to meet Government targets on renewable energy.

The public meeting, which is being held in the community centre, off Exchange Street, in Edenfield at 7pm tomorrow, will give residents the chance to put their views across to Rossendale Council before its development control committee meets to decide its view on the planning application.

However, because of the size of the application, the final decision on the wind farm will be be made by the Department of Trade and Industry.

But if either Rossendale Council or Rochdale Council objects a public inquiry will be held. The deadline for the councils' comments is Friday, December 12.
