A PENSIONER who had her head shaved in aid of an East Lancashire theatre said: "If it wasn't for the make-up, I'd look like a convict."
Betty Wilkinson, 72, of Kirkstone Avenue, in Cherry Tree, Blackburn, had her white locks shaved-off on stage at Blackburn's Thwaites Theatre.
Betty took part in a 10-minute sketch about the demon barber Sweeney Todd, along with Blackburn hairdresser Jeff Stone.
The sketch was part of a show by Darwen comedian Donald Banks.
The theatre, which opened on Blackburn Road a year ago, needs to raise £150,000 to pay for a new balcony.
And they are hoping to recruit 150 'rogues' who will raise £1,000 each to make the dream come true.
Betty, who has two grandchildren, said: "I was a little apprehensive but a little excited as well. People have said it's such a shame I'm having my hair cut because it's lovely, but they never said this before.
"I said a few words and as Jeff cut my throat with a huge razor I let out a blood-curdling scream, I just hope there was nobody there who had a weak heart.
"I've raised £350 so far but if anybody wants to donate more they can by by sending it to the theatre by care of me."
Theatre project director, Michael Berry, said: "We have already managed to recruit around 35 'rogues' -- including Ken Dodd. They have done a number of things to raise the money, including running marathons."
