Castleton Gabriels ...0 Colne ...3

AFTER the midweek high of beating Southport in the Marsden Trophy it was back to league action for Colne.

On a very poor playing surface, the Reds took the game to the home side in the early stages but had a let off when keeper Ross Baxter sent a clearance straight to a Gabriels forward who missed an open goal from just outside the box.

James Webster brought a save from Castleton goalkeeper Canning with his near post effort while Carl Haworth and Ian Simpson both went close.

Simpson was then pulled back when he was through on goal and the referee had no option but to send off Gabriels' Armstrong.

Webster hit the bar with a dipping shot from 20 yards before the deadlock was broken thanks to Bird's bullet header from a Webster corner.

Several chances went begging for Colne in the second half before Haworth made it 2-0 from close range.

Colne brought on Gavin Cooper for Slater and Lee Coldridge for Morley and it was Cooper who made it 3-0 when he fired in a Coldridge cross.
