DARWEN ...3 OLDHAM TOWN ...1

DARWEN grabbed a confidence-boosting win over Oldham Town at the Anchor Ground.

Boss Steve Wilkes named the same side that went down 4-3 to Curzon Ashton in midweek, and the players responded by netting three times in the first half-hour.

Barely two minutes into the game, Daniel Stubberfield converted a low cross from the left by Mark Westhead. But Oldham pulled one back through a James Kirby spot kick after a highly-contentious decision involving Darwen defender Ben Jackson.

Dennis Hill then tucked the ball away following good work from Lee Webb and Stubberfield.

Westhead volleyed home the third after Webb hit the post, while Lee Kennedy made a fine double-save from Kevin Beattie at the other end.

After the break, Anthony Mills made a fantastic goal-line clearance from a Hill effort and Webb hit the post again before the floodlights failed.

Much to Darwen's relief the game restarted and the hosts began where they left off with Stubberfield having a number of chances to bag his second of the game, however the score-line remained 3-1.
