MANCHESTER United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has heaped praise on one of Old Trafford's unsung heroes as the Reds gear up for tomorrow's clash with Blackburn Rovers.

Quinton Fortune, the South African international midfielder, has spent the last four years with the champions but his contribution to the squad has often been overlooked until now.

"Quinton has been brilliant for us this season," said Ferguson.

"He is one of these players who has just got better the longer he has been with us.

"He can play in a variety of positions. He's comfortable in central midfield, wide left midfield or at left back.

"Versatile players like Quinton, Phil Neville and John O'Shea are a Godsend.

"He's also worked very hard on his body strength and he is maturing too. So you are seeing a more powerful player."

Fortune is once again likely to get the nod in midfield tomorrow ahead of the likes of England international Nicky Butt.

He has appeared in all but two of United's games so far this season and he is currently enjoying his best ever run of games.
