TEENAGE hotshot Matty Derbyshire may not be at Great Harwood for much longer if the wealth of Premiership interest in him is maintained, writes SUZANNE GELDARD.

The 17-year-old has prompted enquiries from a number of Premiership and Football League clubs, including Manchester United, Everton and Blackburn Rovers, and now a fourth un-named Premiership side has asked about the striker.

Derbyshire has already had talks with Rovers and Great Harwood manager John Hughes doesn't know if his star player, who has netted 14 goals in 13 league games, will be available for their trip to Eccleshall tomorrow.

"The phone's still red hot," said the Robins' chief.

"Blackburn have spoken to him and are keen to have him.

"It could all happen for him if he carries on doing what he's good at."

But Hughes has moved quickly to establish another young protege in the side.

Young central defender David Usmond has signed for Great Harwood but Hughes said he would not rush the 17-year-old former Langho Under 18s player into the first team.

"We've got to work for as long as we can to get him fit and right for this level because it's a big step up for him," he said.

"I saw him play against Matty Derbyshire last year and he did well against him.

"He's a big, strong lad and has a bright future ahead of him."

Hughes also expects to be without Paul Mashiter this weekend so 17-year-old Darren Rodgers and Warren Baker could start up front.
