BRENT Peters admits he is having his breath taken away - by his side's football.

The Bacup Borough manager has hailed his players the best he has worked with at West View. And he hopes their special brand of play continues this weekend as they entertain Northern League outfit Guisborough Town in the FA Vase second round - the furthest Bacup have been in the competition.

"We're on a roll and everyone's buzzing," said Peters, who saw his side romp to a 4-1 win at home to Curzon Ashton.

"I always feel when we go forward that we're likely to score. We've been playing some breath-taking football.

"We're not running with the ball now, we're making the ball do the work.

"We were superior throughout the game on Wednesday night and hopefully we can keep this run going. I've no reason to feel that we can't because confidence is really high.

"Players have got a spring in their step, they're enjoying their football and can't wait for the next game."

The dedication the players have got to the cause at West View was highlighted when Rhodri Giggs surrendered the chance to see his brother in action for Wales in their Euro 2004 qualifier against Russia on Wednesday so he could turn out for Bacup, despite suffering from a heavy cold.

And Peters hopes such dedication will prompt a run in the FA Vase this season, as well as a climb up the North West Counties Division One table.

"It will be a difficult game tomorrow," he said.

"We played them a couple of seasons ago and lost 1-0 but played quite well.

"We've got a totally different side now.

"In terms of ability, skill and experience this is probably best bunch of players I've had here - better than the side which won promotion last season because we've added players from a higher level."
