CONFIDENT Clitheroe manager Lee Sculpher is sure he can wipe out the bitter memories of 18 months ago.

The Blues were cruelly knocked out of the FA Vase quarter final with the last kick of the game against Whitley Bay when they went down 2-1.

"That was one of the worst experiences I've had as a manager," Sculpher said.

But now his Clitheroe high fliers, many of which were involved in that game, are ready to exact revenge after fate brought the two sides together at the second round stage of the competition this weekend.

"It's difficult to say whether we should have won or not in that game but we certainly didn't deserve to get beat," Sculpher said.

"And it was the most cruel way to go out with the last kick of the game.

"Everyone who was involved that day felt quite down for some time, which is probably why it still gets mentions now even so long after the event.

"The majority of the current team were involved in the quarter final so hopefully they do feel they've got a score to settle."

Neil Reynolds is back in the fold for tomorrow's clash with Whitley Bay at Shawbridge.

The midfielder quit the club to make the step up to UniBond First Division with neighbours Rossendale but has returned to Clitheroe after just over two months at Dark Lane and will be in tomorrow's squad.

And with Jason Jones also returning after a brief break from football, Sculpher is confident of giving the Northern League outfit a run for their money.

John Paul Fagan is back from injury to provide additional cover in midfield while wide man Martin Aspinall played his first game in over 12 months for the reserves on Saturday after recovering from back and hip problems.

"He'll be able to get more games in during the next couple of weeks," Sculpher said.

"He's a very good player and had been excellent for us up until his injury."

Stuart Todhunter is doubtful after sustaining a hamstring problem and Glenn Ainsworth suffered a dead leg but the Blues' chief is hopeful the pair will have recovered in time to be available for selection as both Chris Heslop and Glynn Barker, who signed from Hyde United this week following a loan spell with Ramsbottom, are cup tied.
