DOZENS of residents have written to object to council plans which could force a Clayton-le-Moors householder to alter a conservatory.

The building, on Wellfield, was granted planning permission in November 2003, as long as the homeowner, Mrs J Smith, stuck to certain rules.

The conditions imposed by the council meant that the conservatory should have been put up with solid panels in a side elevation, but the building was put up using glass.

Now the council are set to refuse an application to keep the glass, and neighbours have written to Hyndburn Council to support the application.

In one letter, written by Maria Yuste, of Wellfield, it says: "I do not want to look out onto a building consisting of solid UPVC panels.

"Also, I am considering selling my property in the future -- I believe that an unsightly conservatory would put potential buyers off my property."

In total, the council received one letter and a petition consisting of 25 signatures in support of the glass conservatory, and one letter in objection.

But the council look set to refuse the application, on the grounds that glass could lead to a loss of privacy for neighbours.
