POLICE have written to all Longridge landlords warning them about a man banned from every pub and club in the town.

Officers decided to write to licensees after successfully securing an anti-social behaviour order against 23-year-old Paul Hayhurst.

Hayhurst, of Whittingham Road, Longridge, was served with the order by magistrates in Blackburn a fortnight ago after police told the bench of his 'terrible reputation' for violence.

The ASBO was authorised by District Judge Peter Ward after Hayhurst had pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

He had knocked a payphone off the wall of the Dog Inn, Longridge, after being challenged by the landlord - who said he was banned under the local pub watch scheme.

Police Insp Bob Ford, said: "We have written to pubs in Longridge informing them of the ASBO so that they know it is in force.

"We will need community support in enforcing the terms of this ASBO so it is important people know what the terms are.

"This man has been repeatedly arrested and dealt with for violence and drink-related offence.

"The community needs protection from people like him and we will do all we can to protect the community from him."

The conditions of the three-year ASBO include prohibiting Hayhurst from drinking alcohol in public, entering any licensed premises and from being in the designated 'street drinking exclusion' area of Longridge between 9pm and 7am on Friday and Saturday nights.

He is also banned from causing alarm, harassment or distress and from enticing others to do the same.

At the court case, magistrates were told that drink played a key role in his offending behaviour which included assaults, robbery, theft, damage and public order offences.
