A COMMUNITY leader is calling for action to clear an area of grass, which was once maintained but has become overgrown and littered with dog dirt.

Frank Lang, chairman of Knott Street Community Centre, Darwen, said the council-owned land running from the ends of Snape Street to Dove Lane, parallel with Greenway, was like a jungle.

He said: "It was a beautiful piece of land but the grass is about 3ft feet high.

Hundreds of people walk their dogs there, meaning it's become full of dog dirt. It was as cut monthly last year but it hasn't been touched this year.

"Everybody is asking what's happened to it. They just want things brought back to normal."

Coun Eileen Entwistle, of Highfied Road, was not aware of the problem but said she would have a look at the land. I was in that area the other day but didn't see this particular stretch of land because it's tucked away behind houses."
