OVER the past few days I have read with interest your coverage of the recent events following the elections at the town hall.

Like a lot of people, I don't know the ins and outs of politics, but am dismayed at the resignation of the six councillors from the Labour Party days after the local election.

The councillors I vote for get my cross next to their name because of the party they stand for and the policies that party believes in. I am sure most people, like me, don't know their councillor personally and primarily vote for the party.

I feel betrayed that after I voted they chose to become independent and fight against the party only days earlier they were canvassing for. It makes a mockery of politics that they are able to resign from the party they have been voted in on to then stand as independent members.

Would they have gained the seats had they stood as independent candidates? I think not.
