A BARROWFORD man stopped by police at Manchester Airport trying to travel to Portugal for Euro 2004 has been named as Daniel Springett.

The 28-year-old was stopped on Saturday and appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court on Sunday.

The hearing was adjourned until Friday so the man can seek legal advice in connection with a Football Banning Order.

He is the fourth to be stopped at the airport as part of Operation Clement. In addition, another man has been arrested for failure to abide by the conditions of an existing banning order.

Football Intelligence officers will continue to be on the lookout for potential troublemakers for the duration of the tournament.

Earlier this month Andrew Francis Porter, 37, formerly of Parliament Street, Burnley, was given a three-year football banning order after he was picked up by police at Faro airport.

Banning orders have been taken out on more than 71 known trouble-makers in the county - 52 of whom come from the area covered by the police force's Pennine and Eastern divisions - to stop them travelling to Portugal for the UEFA European Football Championship, which runs until July 4.

Of those, 42 are from the Burnley and Pendle area, with the rest from the wider Blackburn area.
