THE Olympic torch was carried into a Barnoldswick primary school yesterday to spark off a week of sporting activities.
Pupils at Coates Lane primary school held an opening ceremony for their Olympic week with children performing dances from each of the continents represented by the famous five rings.
The torch was carried in by the chairman and secretary of the pupil council and other pupils wore costumes and carried flags in the five colours representing the competing continents.
Different sporting events will be held throughout the week, including training sessions with Burnley FC footballers, a swimming gala, a modern pentathlon and a gymnastics day with Olympians Craig Heap and Paula Thomas.
Headteacher Sue Holloway said: "The event has taken more than 12 months to plan and the staff involved have worked very hard. The children have really been looking forward to it."
