VIPs and schoolchildren converged at Castle Cement's Ribblesdale quarries near Clitheroe in celebration of the company's first 'Bug Week'.
The event, to celebrate the quarry's wildlife diversity, was organised to run in conjunction with National Insect Week, an initiative from the Royal Entomological Society, which Castle is sponsoring.
There was a beekeeping demonstration and nature expert Ron Freethy talked about the vast array of insects and other wildlife which have made the quarry their home. Guest of honour Lord Clitheroe, president of the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, praised the quarry's commitment to nature.
Many of the schoolchildren had already become involved in National Insect Week by entering Castle's competition which invited schools to write a poem on their favourite insect.
