STEVE Cotterill believes the Burnley fans will give their backing to his Turf Moor revolution.

The new Clarets chief has now laid out his masterplan to go into the new Championship campaign with a small squad at his disposal.

Cotterill openly admits the challenge awaiting him is massive - given the financial muscle many First Division rivals will be flexing over the coming year.

But the Turf Moor boss awaits the upcoming season with relish - and sees the support of Clarets fans as a crucial part of his plans.

He said: "I know this is a big job, but with unlimited enthusiasm you can achieve almost anything you want in this life.

"If we don't do well it will not be through lack of enthusiasm from myself, the staff and the players.

"We will get together a good team ethic and we will try to push the club as high as we can - but we need the supporters - not only in numbers, but also vocally.

"I have never lived near Burnley, but I already know they are good fans and I don't anticipate that changing.

"And if we can give them a little taste of what we want to try to do and work hard, I think they will come out in their thousands."

Cotterill is already basking in the delight of landing his first major signing in the form of former Ipswich Town defender John McGreal - a sure-fire candidate for the captain's armband.

More new arrivals are expected in the coming week as the clock ticks down to Thursday's announcement of next season's fixture list.

But in the meantime preparation continues to be another key part of Cotterill's plan to hit the ground running in early August.

Earlier than usual pre-season friendlies, starting with the trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday, July 10, will be followed by a mouth-watering home date with Wayne Rooney inspired Everton on Thursday, July 22, before the Clarets embark on a week's summer training camp in Austria.

Cotterill added: "All those inches add up and if you just work as hard as you can and don't let anything slip through the net, hopefully you pick up more points than if you hadn't added up those inches.

"We will plan and prepare for every single game the same and I'm sure it will all add up."
