MORE than 500 mourners paid their last respects to biker Jon Glover at his funeral yesterday.

It was standing room only for the packed service at Burnley Crematorium.

Jon, 27, of Bolton Road West, in Ramsbottom, was riding his Suzuki 750cc in Halifax Road about 12.45pm on Saturday, June 12, when the accident happened.

Jon, who grew up in Burnley but had recently moved to live with his girlfriend Joanne, 22, in Ramsbottom, crashed into a stationary three-and-a-half-ton van while trying to pass a car coming down the road.

Yesterday, floral tributes in the form of a bike and flowers spelling out 'Jo & Jon' were placed in the crematorium's gardens.

The Rev Peter Hapgood-Strickland said Jon, who worked for CMS in Blackburn, was adventurous and enjoyed extreme sports, including bungee jumping, paragliding, and parachute jumping.

His love for music and playing his guitar was remembered at the service when three of his friends paid tribute by playing the guitar and singing a touching rendition of 'On the Ledge.'

Father Hapgood-Strickland said: "Jon was somebody who loved life and enjoyed life. He was somebody who would be the life and soul of the party.

"He liked to be with people. He enjoyed company and if you were there when Jon turned up, probably late as usual, you would know that you were in for a good time. He was known for the amount of time that he would spend ironing, making sure everything was just right. There was also a quiet side to Jon. He would spend a lot of time with his grandma, drinking a bottle of red wine.

"He was a great Monty Python fan. I can imagine Jon laughing and smiling and we have to look on the bright side of life even though life seems so dull. He met a lot of people, he gave them hope and laughter and warmth for which we are all grateful."

His devastated mum Jackie, 47, fought back the tears to read out a poem dedicated to her eldest son's life.

The last line read: "I know he's in heaven now, leaving us filled with pain. Dad will now take care of you until we meet again. God bless you Jon."

As well as his mother, Jon leaves younger brother, Ryan, 24, and girlfriend, Joanne.

Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here and Breath were played at the service.
