ACCRINGTON Stanley's hopes of signing Aussie goalkeeper Jason Petkovic now hang on a work permit.
Reds manager John Coleman today revealed that Perth Glory star Petkovic has agreed in principle to join the Conference side in time for next season.
However, Stanley must first apply for a permit for the 31-year-old Socceroo, who has 16 international appearances to his name.
And that means an agonising wait of up to two weeks before the Department of Employment make a final decision.
Coleman said: "We have applied for a work permit for Jason, but that could take anything up to a fortnight to go through the system."
The news comes as outgoing Stanley keeper Jamie Speare confirmed he has signed a one-year deal with Conference North outfit Lancaster City.
Speare, who lost his place to Reds rival Jon Kennedy during the inaugural Conference season, was unable to agree terms with Stanley after trying to renegotiate a deal to coincide with the Reds decision to turn fully professional on July 1.
