WITH regard to the article about playing football in the street, maybe our budding footballers would benefit from playing on proper football pitches.
I can only speak from local knowledge, but why don't all local schools open up their pitches for kids to play on?
Witton Park, as an example, had a fantastic sports field available to local kids, this was fenced off a few years ago and now the field further into the park has been fenced off as well.
Where do the sporty kids play now? On the street or not at all.
Maybe that is contributing to the so-called obesity problem among children.
A footnote to local historians: was Witton Park not left to the people of Blackburn to enjoy by the Feilden family?
If so, who authorised the fencing off of the fields?
STEVE BURY, Livingstone Road, Blackburn.
