I FEEL the article concerning the six councillors that quit their positions from the Labour Party was one-sided.

I have known the Bastwell ward councillors for quite a long time. They are very highly respected citizens of the community. The only reason the Labour Party was elected in the Bastwell ward was because of the trust in Iftikar Hussain, Mahfooz Hussain and Parvez Akhtar.

I therefore assume that the Labour Party should be very grateful to these councillors. If it wasn't for them then the majority of the community in this ward would have voted against the Labour Party, because of their internal and external policies towards the Muslim community.

It is therefore the Labour Party's loss in mistrusting these councillors. Labour should get their act together soon or else they could lose many more councillors.

I have been around the Blackburn and Darwen community and the people are very angry at the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's remarks regarding the six councillors. I would like to advise you to take into consideration the public's point of view about this matter.

It would be helpful if you travelled into the Bastwell area to take the views and opinions of the community before you publish anything further.

EDITOR'S FOOTNOTE: Our reporters have interviewed many people in the Bastwell area. Some of their opinions have already been published in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph - and the vast majority of the people we spoke to are very disappointed at the actions of the six councillors. As for the breakaway councillors, their comments made last week were published. Since then they have declined to talk to us on the record.
