POLICE revealed that a group of French exchange students were operating as a shoplifting gang in Blackburn.
It prompted the mayor at the time, Coun Rendall Allen, to call for the 20 students, visiting Darwen Vale High School, to be better supervised.
Police were warning people to be on guard following a spate of thefts in the town centre, but the headmaster of the school refused to comment on the allegations.
