PENSIONER Billy Meadows has finally won a victory against his untidy neighbours - Wigan Council!
The 72-year-old from Carlisle Street had for years been seeking action from the council to clean up two abandoned allotments adjoining his garden off Castle Hill.
The council land was strewn with rubbish, overgrown weeds, dilapidated sheds, fallen-down fencing and a wrecked Land Rover.
His numerous complaints had failed to bring an eyesore clean-up.
"I just kept getting the run-around," he said.
"Every year, they would send a gardener to do a bit of weeding but within a couple of months the problem would be back to square one."
Mr Meadows who recently had to undergo a seven-graft heart bypass operation said the stress was not helping his health but he in spite of his condition he had tried to climb over the fence to cut down the weeds invading his garden.
But now Hindley councillor Alf Robinson has come to Bill's rescue and the allotment tenants have been given seven days notice to clean up their act or face a court order.
