THE first four bars of the French National Anthem heralded "Cash in the Attic" couple Isabelle and Richard Sykes for their second wedding ceremony.

The Lowton newlyweds, who married in France in May, went the whole hog with a second weekend of celebration at home - thanks to a little help from the TV antiques programme.

Mum and Dad David and Linda, and younger brother Robert, dug out some of their unwanted antiques and called in the programme with the aim of raising £1,250 towards the nuptial costs.

The show was screened earlier this year and though the target was not reached, the ceremonies went on exactly as planned.

Richard, an environmental consultant, met Isabelle Bessonnet from the ancient Roman town of Saintes at Stirling University when he played for the Strathclyde University American Football squad.

Isabelle now works in Leigh Infirmary's records department, and also provides French language teaching and translation in her spare time.

They have settled in Lowton St Mary's, near to the church where their marriage was blessed by the vicar, the Rev Bill Stalker.

The bride entered to the first four bars of The Marseillaise, followed by 'Here Comes the Bride'.

At the reception at The Last Drop at Bromley Cross on Saturday a French accordionist and violinist played while at a Sunday barbecue the music was provided by Richard's friend, Leigh-based guitarist and singer, Paul Ogden.

The couple are honeymooning in Naples.

David said: "These two celebrations have been among the happiest days of our lives. I am now broke so any donations will be gratefully received!"
