ASTLEY & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare-CTA Direct cycle speedway team fielded their strongest squad for the Northern Fours League match at Tameside on Sunday.

In conditions made difficult by heavy rain pre-match, making both the starts and the circuit very slippery, A & T raced to their highest ever score in this league by heavily defeating Bury, Tameside and Hull.

Tomasz Wlodarczyk raced to another maximum points score, with excellent contributions from the three other team members.

A & T had riders missing for the Northern Junior League match, also at Tameside, and this cost them second place on the day, losing by just one point to Sheffield, with Bury convincing winners.

Scottish based Ewan Tulloch was best for A & T, dropping just one point in the Senior Combination category, with good scores from the rest of the team.

A & T also had riders missing for the fourth and final Midlands/North Regional Round of the British Youth & Junior League at Hull on Saturday, and this was reflected in a disappointing fifth place finish on the day. Despite this, A & T just managed to hang on to second place (out of 11 teams) in the final table. Sandwell won the regional league by a large margin and qualify as a team for the National Rounds.

Individually, Becky Heslop was in great form to race unbeaten in the U14 category, and she then went on to win her fourth successive Grand Prix Final, to retain her lead in the series and qualify as an individual for the National Rounds. Dylan Radcliffe took another second place in the U10 Grand Prix Final and also qualifies as an individual for the National Rounds.
