PUPILS have been letting their imaginations run wild by bringing new inventions to life.
A course run by Blackburn College's Rapid Prototyping Service, funded by the council, has given youngsters the chance to explore engineering and design.
And after training on design software and making prototypes -- mobile phones, toys and packaging have all been produced.
Students from Our Lady and St John Catholic Arts College, Crosshill, and St Wilfrid's CE High School and Technology College, Blackburn, have all taken part so far.
David Melling, manager of the Rapid Prototyping Service, said: "RPS helps children to experience the connection between designs, prototyping, manufacturing and industry.
"The beauty of the RPS is that we can build a prototype from a sketch so you don't have to be technically minded to see your invention come to life!"
Pupils are taught the basics of computer-aided design, while the RPS enables pupils to have scale models of their inventions made. In addition, the service offers advice and information on engineering as a potential future career, and pupils are shown the routes through education that could lead to jobs in the engineering industry.
