A TEN-YEARS-OLD champion Leigh dancer and her "Pushy Parents" had their 15 minutes of fame on Monday.

Charlotte Lowndes', mother Jocelyne and dad Owen, were featured in the ITV fly-on-the-wall documentary which followed the exploits of parents with talented children pursuing ambitious goals.

I feared the family, who dedicate their lives to a passion for dance, may have been made to look silly, but thankfully they came over as normal, though perhaps a bit over enthusiastic.

Compared to the Russian mum who thought her son was going to be the next Pavarotti, the single mum of four whose children were being forced into modelling and the 20 odd year old whose old fashioned showbiz father was trying to get her into a West End stage musical they were far from forceful.

Viewers saw disco queen Charlotte preparing for the big Disco Kid competition in Blackpool with mum in charge of hair, make-up and costume and dad giving pep talks, and revealing the secrets of getting his daughter recognised by the judges by shouting out her number and honking a klaxon.

Jocelyne and Owen love the life but don't make their daughter, who dances or does gymnastics seven days a week, do anything she doesn't want to. They teach her to accept defeat gracefully and just get on with the next competition.

Two thing are for sure. If all children had the backing of loving parents like fit little Charlotte's they wouldn't go far wrong - and she has certainly started off well on the road to a healthy life with lots of outside interests.
