GIFT shop owner Johny Goldstone is keeping his outdoor displays under wraps after a spate of thefts.

The 31-year-old will keep the clothed mannequins perched above his shop on The Rock behind closed doors from now on.

The culprits have also broken display signs at World Ideas.com, leaving Mr Goldstone with damage and loss he estimates at £1,250.

Models were erected 15ft above the pavement as a promotion for the shop, which opened nine months ago.

The thefts began two months ago when a pair of knickers was taken from one, followed by underwear, t-shirts and two mannequin torsos.

Mr Goldstone: "We will have to revise our display now. It is a shame because it was something different that we were trying out to add to the town centre."

Owners of the Mill Gate Shopping Centre, Westfield, are responsible for the property. Centre manager Colin Nichol said: "We are aware of the problems and our security staff will be providing some of their thoughts on ways that Mr Goldstone can improve matters.

"We will also be liaising with the local authority about the closed circuit television system."
