ORGANISERS of a summer carnival in Burnley and Padiham are appealing for community and voluntary groups to take part.

The event is being organised by the Brunshaw Action Group and funded from a £10,000 grant by Lancashire Police through money they have secured from the Rank Charitable Foundation.

It is scheduled to take place on August 15, and 13 community groups have already expressed an interest in taking part, including Sure Start, the Centre Stage Residents' Group in Lowerhouse, Youth Works, Top of the Town Residents' Group and a community group in Daneshouse.

However, there is still time for groups to get involved in the event and take up the challenge of putting together a float for the carnival, with funding and help from organisers.

Superintendent Steve Hartley said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for people to work together and produce a real showcase for the borough. Similar events, though on a much smaller scale, have proved very successful but with the additional funding we've secured this year from the Rank Foundation we hope to make this an even bigger and better community celebration.

"If you care about your community, your ward and your local towns, then get involved and let's show everyone what a vibrant, active community we have in Burnley and Padiham."

Anyone who is interested in taking part in the event can contact Michael Bailey or Diane Duckworth at the Brunshaw Action Group on 01282 715400, or 07984145141
