POLICE are appealing for the driver of a white van to come forward after a car crashed into a garden wall in Whitefield on Thursday morning.

A Toyota MR2 was travelling along Bury New Road, away from the M60 motorway roundabout towards Bury, when the driver lost control at 8am.

The car veered across the dual carriageway and collided with the garden wall of a house. The male driver was unhurt. A BMW driven by a female motorist was travelling in oncoming Traffic towards the motorway roundabout when her vehicle collided with the Toyota.

A white transit-type van and a Citroen Zsara were also in collision with the BMW and after initially stopping and getting out of the vehicle, the driver of the van drove away from the scene.

The BMW driver suffered minor injuries to her neck but did not require hospital treatment.

Traffic officers at Bury now wish to speak to the white van driver.

PC Pete Raines said: "We are trying to track the owner driver of the vehicle as we need to speak to him. All we know is that he is a white male in a white transit-type van."

The accident is the second in six months to affect householder Mrs Edith Whittaker.

The 92-year-old had just been to the front window to look for her home carer when the smash happened.

She said: "The first I knew about it was when the gentleman came to the door to tell me he had crashed into the wall. I had only just had the wall rebuilt after a car crashed into it six months ago. It is very unnerving. My nerves are shot at."
