A BACUP man seen in a Rochdale park cutting chunks off a block of cannabis, a court heard.

Lee Thomas Gray, 30, of Industrial Street, admitted possessing a quantity of a class C drug and Rochdale magistrates decided to give him a conditional discharge for twelve months with court costs of £45.

Kay Raywood, prosecuting, said Gray had been seen on steps at Broadfield Park in Rochdale. He had a one ounce block of cannabis from which he was cutting chunks in public view.

A policeman on foot patrol investigated and spoke to Gray who said the cannabis was for his own personal use.

Gray, who had been making his way from work when he was spotted with the cannabis, told the bench: "There were no other people that I could see. I would not want to upset anyone. This was my cannabis and mine alone."
