ACCRINGTON Stanley's early season Conference clash at York City will not now take place on August Bank Holiday Monday.

City, who were relegated from the Football League last season, have wasted no time in contacting the Reds to request a switch due to the heavy cost of policing the game on a Bank Holiday.

The match will now take place at Bootham Crescent 24 hours later, on Tuesday, August 31 (7.45pm KO).

And Stanley chairman Eric Whalley today declared himself happy with the new fixtures, which sees the Reds kick-start their campaign with a home game against Nigel Clough's Burton Albion side on Saturday, August 7.

Whalley said: "We can't have any complaints because the opening game is a good one to have and we don't have too many midweek trips to make.

"Playing Halifax on Boxing Day and New Year's Day is also welcome, so if anything we are looking forward to the season even more now we know what faces us."
