ON my way to work, at around 7.30am on Tuesday, I was driving towards Manchester along Jubilee Way, Bury. At the side of me was a silver car, and hanging a long way out of the rear, nearside window was a little girl dressed in pink and aged about three. Also in the back was a woman, and a man was driving. I assume they were her parents.

Soon afterwards they turned down Tenterden Street, perhaps to go to the nursery near the magistrates' courts. The couple were both laughing. What sort of people would condone this kind of "fun"? I wouldn't even let my dog hang out of the car window.

From a purely selfish perspective, had she fallen from the car I could have been the one to kill her. And I would have had to live with that for the rest of my life.

I hope the adults responsible read this and feel ashamed. And if the little girl does attend the nursery, then hopefully the staff will give her the benefit of some good parental guidance.
