A KEEN golfer has had a "hole" lot of success with his fundraising to thank the hospital staff who helped him beat cancer.

Mike Heath, of Swinton Crescent, Unsworth, raised £2,500 at a special golf competition arranged to thank the medical team at Fairfield General Hospital.

Mike was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2003 and underwent eight months of chemotherapy.

With his cancer now in remission, Mike arranged the sponsored golfing tournament at Worsley Golf Club in Eccles, to raise money for Fairfield's Day Case Unit.

Teams from Manchester, Whitefield, Stockport and Bolton took part in raising the cash for the unit which treats those needing chemotherapy.

Mike said: "Everyone benefited from the event -- the unit, players and the club. We had lots of positive feedback from everyone and lots of requests to hold another next year so that we can build on this success."

Sister Bev Sedman, Day Case Unit manager, said: "We are very grateful for this generous donation and all the money raised will be used to improve the quality of care and comfort for patients undergoing treatment on our unit."
