ONE of three men who raided a working men's club and made off with a £800 haul after disabling the alarm has been jailed for four months.

Burnley Magistrates heard heroin addict Dale Barratt, 34, was filmed on CCTV cameras after the attack on the Paradise Club, in Burnley.

When police went to his home they found an axe, screwdriver and hammer. He made no comment to questions until shown the video footage and then made full and frank confession.

Barrett, of Griffin Close, Burnley, admitted burglary and was told by the bench that the offence was planned, was fairly sophisticated and damage had been caused. But they added he was not the prime mover behind the offence.

Carl Gaffney, prosecuting, told the court the trio were seen on CCTV approaching the premises. They climbed onto the roof to cut the alarm wires to deactivated it.

The three then broke into the fruit machine and stole bingo money and petty cash.

The defendant was identified by police after they saw video footage and he was arrested at home.

Mr Gaffney said one of Barrett's accomplices had also been sent to prison for four months while another had been committed to crown court for sentence.

The defendant had an extensive record and was also said to be in breach of the rehabilitation order.

Mark Williams, defending, said Barrett accepted the court would impose custody. He would not welcome prison but perhaps needed it to solve his drug problem.

He committed the offence to fund his habit, admitted it to police and pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, he said.

Mr Williams added Barrett was slightly reluctant to get involved in the burglary but was given the chance to get some money.
