A MARTIAL arts centre is celebrating after scooping more than £6,000 in funding to encourage youngsters to take part in sport.
Jak Eun Bal Taekwondo, based at Marsden Primary School, Nelson, secured £6,750 from the Area Network, which aims to provide funding to help youngsters.
Philip Richardson, an instructor who travels throughout Burnley and Pendle to give tuition to other groups, said the money has helped provide better facilities.
He said: "We have been able to buy new armour, new pads, pay for the rent on the school hall, which has a new sports hall thanks to Lottery funding, and have a bit of money left to help us with competitions.
"The aim is to get children involved in something positive and something they enjoy doing. It's a kicking-based martial art which also covers self-defence and helps confidence."
The club is offering new members a free lesson. Classes are held at Marsden Hall Road Community Centre, Nelson, on Mondays from 7.15pm to 9.15pm and on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm.
Sessions are also held at Marsden County Primary School, Nelson, on Fridays, from 7pm to 9pm. People can turn up on the night or ring Philip on 07812 147895. Admission is £2.50 for children and £3 for adults.
