GROUNDWORK Trust staff set up new roots after a £740,000 grant. The 'green' troubleshooters moved to the purpose-built environment centre on the Leeds and Liverpool canalside.
The move from offices at Glenfield Park to the new site at Nova Scotia Wharf, off Bolton Road, Blackburn was funded by a European Development Fund, City Challenge, Blackburn Council and private sector contributions.

RATS as big as cats, foot high floods and overflowing rubbish were just some of the complaints received by Blackburn Council.
Since a clearance order was slapped on houses down one side of Lancaster Street, Blackburn, residents said it was an endless battle against vermin, tipping and tramps sleeping rough.

AN EAST Lancashire miner visited his family after starting a new life in Tasmania. Sagar Whittles, his wife and three children, left their Stacksteads home and bought a string of hotels. The family visited his sister and brother-in-law, Mr and Mrs Nuttall of Whalley Road, Shuttleworth. He said: "It took some years to save the money from my wages as a bush miner."
