TWO Rossendale lodges are set to be given a new lease of life after a £35,000 grant was secured from the Environment Agency Fisheries Fund.
The Lumb Valley Anglers and Rossendale Rivers Society have been working with Groundwork Rossendale to improve Jack Lodge in Whitewell Bottom and the Isle of Man Lodge in Lumb and make pathways safer. The scheme is being delivered under the Rossendale Rivers Initiative, in partnership with the Mersey Basin Campaign.
The paths are dangerous in bad weather and can be off-putting to anglers. Money will go towards widening and resurfacing paths and where necessary making boardwalks and handrails.
Claire Sims, of Groundwork Rossendale, said: "By rejuvenating Jack Lodge and the Isle of Man Lodge it is hoped a greater number of people will participate in the sport.
"The Lumb Valley Anglers are particularly keen to attract young people, women and disabled members as they are currently under-represented in the sport and club."
