A WOMAN and her three-month-old son narrowly escaped injury when they were "trapped by the door" as they tried to get off a bus.

Sian Evans, 19, of Queen Victoria Street, Mill Hill, Blackburn, was left upset by the incident as she left the 22c Leyburn Road bus from Havelock Street.

She was going home with her baby son, Cameron Cain Houghton, at 3.45 pm on Friday.

Today Blackburn Transport pledged to investigate the accident if Mrs Houghton made a complaint in writing.

Sian said: "I was carrying Cameron in my arms and when I got up I knew it would take a while to get the pram off

"All of a sudden the doors trapped me and Cameron in them. I was really shocked and scared because the doors were close to his legs - but it could have been his head.

"I had to use all my strength to wriggle free - still holding my baby."

Sian's mother-in-law, Tina Houghton, was at home when Sian burst through the doors in tears.

She said: "She was really upset.

"I was furious that my grandson could have been injured in this way, so I phoned Blackburn Transport who run the service.

"They said if I put it in writing they would look into my complaint.

"They both could have been seriously hurt.

"Babies are precious and Sian has had a real scare.

"I am just relieved that they are both alright."

A spokesman for Blackburn Transport said: "We told Mrs Houghton to make a complaint in writing. When we have the facts before us we will investigate the complaint fully."
