JOHN Coleman is delighted to see his plan for full-time football come together so quickly.

The Accrington Stanley chief was delighted with his side's performance in their 2-1 win at Morecambe last night, which puts them second in the Nationwide Conference only on goal difference.

But he admitted he did not expect to see the benefits of becoming a professional football club so soon.

"I expected the benefit of full-time training to kick in later rather than sooner," he said.

"We're a fit bunch of lads anyway, but they have set themselves a standard. They've shown us the style of football they can play and shown us they can adopt the system we want them to."

And Coleman was delighted that the goals came from two different sources - a solo effort from Ian Craney and Robbie Williams' header from a corner.

"People might be surprised at Ian's shot but no-one in the dressing room was because we've seen him do that in training for the last five weeks," he said.

"He scored one like that against Stanley for Altrincham, and I'm sure it won't be the last he scores like that.

"Doing it during training is a different matter than doing it on a stage like this, but he's capable of that, and that's one of the reasons why we brought him here."

The Reds chief added that he as pleased that recent set piece work had paid off for Williams' goal.

"We didn't start working on them until eight or nine days ago, but when you've got a plan and it comes off it's very pleasing," he said.

"Thankfully we got that goal and it gave us a little bit more of a cushion and it made Morecambe a little bit more stretched in the second half.

"The pleasing thing is that it's an away win, and we only had two of those last year, so to get off the mark is good."
