THE flag over Accrington Town Hall was due to fly at half mast today as mark of respect for people killed in the siege at a school in the southern Russian town of Beslan.
People in Hyndburn are also being invited to sign a book of condolence, which was opened by council leader Councillor Peter Britcliffe and members of the council's cabinet.
The book will be open at the Town Hall for a month for people leave messages and will then be sent to the local authority in Beslan where last week militants held hundreds of children hostage.
Coun Britcliffe said: "People here in East Lancashire and across the world have witnessed some of the most horrific scenes and in Hyndburn we want show our support for the people involved."
