DEAR MASSI,

I have got myself into a very embarrassing situation with a friend and I don't know how to get out of it.

We both go to the same college and one day I was talking to a male friend and accidently told him I was going out with her.

I am not. It was just a lie. He is going out with a girl and I just felt like saying it. We had a long talk and I lied about everything. He went and told his girl's friend and she's told some other people.

Two days later the girl I lied about spoke to me and started crying and said I was the biggest liar ever. I feel really bad and sorry for her.

We used to talk about our courses but she doesn't even look at me any more.

I wish there was a way of making it up to her. What can I do?

LI Preston

MASSI SAYS,

I am not surprised this girl is treating you like this. You have not only embarrassed her but also probably caused her a lot of pain.

I don't think there is much you can do to redeem yourself. It is up to her to forgive you and if she doesn't, who can blame her?

Even a simple lie can be bad but at least you have learnt your lesson and will think about opening your big mouth again. If you want to make it up to her you will have to tell every one of her friends as well as yours that you lied. If you are prepared to do that she might give you a second chance but I wouldn't hold out much hope.
